This decorative glass has been created to honour the work done by the politician Samuel Plimsoll, who is perhaps now best remembered for devising the Plimsoll line - a system of mandatory ship markings that prevent overloading, particularly of merchant ships, making sea travel safer for many generations.
The Plimsoll line can now be found on all commercial ships worldwide. On this glass, the safe load mark line is to measure off 220ml of liquid of your choice.
