Cable
Marine Cable
When buying cable for your boat, we highly recommend you use tinned cable. Often known as Marine Cable, tinned cable is coated with a thin layer of tin which prevents copper from corroding in damp conditions. Un-tinned cable will quickly corrode in the harsh marine environment, making connections unreliable and reducing the current capacity.
The thicker a cable is, the better it conducts electrical power and the higher current it can safely carry. Thicker cable will also result in less voltage drop in comparison with a thinner cable. As the distance that the current has to travel increases, the chances of any loss in voltage also increases, so it's worth factoring this too.
