Cortex is the worlds first VHF radio with high speed SOTDMA transponder technology that makes your boat more visible to others. It’s also the worlds most advanced VHF with multi-station wireless touchscreen handsets.
VHF Reimagined:
Cortex is a true revolution in marine technology and will change your VHF experience forever. Vesper Marine have put user experience at the forefront of their design. The handheld VHF is ergonomically designed for one-handed operation using quick touch control or the unique click wheel.
Vesper know every second counts, which is why you can initiate direct calls with other vessels simply by tapping on them. Audio is crisp and clear, ensuring you do not miss a word. Plus, instead of ambiguous bells or tones, Cortex sounds an alarm with voice alerts through its 85db speaker. These voice alerts escalate until acknowledged.
Wet hands or wearing gloves? No problem, the 4” sunlight viewable display is IPX7 rated and works perfectly with gloves or wet hands. The display is made from gorilla glass, ensuring it can stand the test of time, even in the harshest marine environments. With a pinch to zoom feature, you can zoom in to focus on a single vessel or zoom out to see a wider view of everything around you.
SmartAIS:
SmartAIS combines GPS, AIS and heading data with smart logic to proactively warn you of collision risks. You are able to see AIS transmitting vessels around you in order to maintain situational awareness. Easily see which vessels present a risk to you by viewing their course, speed and any potential crossing situation. You are also able to make trial manoeuvres to simulate where and when your paths will cross. A built-in heading sensor tells other vessels of your direction, helping them more accurately predict any potential collisions.
Cortex is compatible with all AIS MOB’s, you can label the devices with crew names for easy identification and see where the MOB was first activated, along with continuous updates to its location, bearing and range. When Cortex detects an AIS MOB activation it will immediately sound the alarm. Pressing the dedicated MOB button will activate a track back mode on all handsets and marks the MOB on NMEA 2000 connected multi-function displays.
Connect via Wi-Fi to receive alerts on your smartphone, tablet or smartwatch, anywhere on board. Up to 10 Wi-Fi devices can be connected to receive and manage alarms, view AIS information and instrument data. Cortex can be integrated to your NMEA 2000 network and you are able to use your mobile devices to view information your instruments provide.
Remote Vessel Control:
Remote Vessel Control is easy to set up and there is no fee - as long as your smartphone and boat have cellular access, you can know your boat is safe and secure. With built-in sensors you are able to see twice daily updates of your boat’s location, battery level, true heading, ambient temperature and barometric pressure. Plus, connect your NMEA network and monitor more data, including wind speed direction and water depth.
There’s also the option to subscribe to a Cortex Monitor Plan. This enables you to receive alerts and see real-time information about your boat. Go ashore with peace of mind, activate Anchor Watch when you drop anchor and it will continuously monitor the position of your boat. If Anchor Watch detects a dragging anchor it will immediately send an alert to your mobile device providing you and your boat both have cellular coverage. Furthermore, with the Cortex Monitor Plan, you can remotely control devices like lighting, air conditioning or icemakers. Cortex is compatible with third party sensors and control relays, giving you the information you require for your boat.
Feature Heavy:
Cortex has a 10Hz GPS Update Rate, ensuring your vessel position is more accurately plotted. When you connect other devices to your Cortex GPS using NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183, all on board equipment benefits from Vesper’s superfast GPS. An integrated no-loss splitter allows you to share a single antenna with another VHF and will deliver maximum performance for both your VHF and AIS.
With all this technology, you would be mistaken for thinking power consumption is high. With only 6 watts of power consumption, you can always keep Cortex on, ensuring you are always visible to other vessels and can always monitor your own.=
For many boaters, integration is key. Cortex will seamlessly integrate with every brand of multi-function display and chartplotter with AIS input, including your favourite brands like Garmin, Raymarine and Humminbird. Cortex will provide target overlays and vessel information including course and speed, right at the tip of your fingers on your existing or new multi-function display.
Vesper Marine’s Cortex will only get smarter. New features and capabilities can be downloaded automatically to the Cortex onboard app for easy updates to Cortex via Wi-Fi whenever convenient for you.
